Expanding your Service list

Hey Beauties, Cecily here!

As a lash and brow artist and a business owner, I’m always innovating on how to scale my business to the next level. Thinking of what your next move should be may seem daunting but don’t let nerves get you down. Not all changes have to be revolutionary to make a difference in your business.

When I was working on my service list, I was uncertain of what I would be able to accomplish with my current skill. What I did know is that I had a unique talent and high customer retention and demand. So I pushed myself, and along with my continuing growth I brought in Microblading/ ombre brows, lash lifts, brow shaping + tint, and brow laminations services. I have never regretted this choice. Adding these services to my service list helped me bring in extra revenue that was essential for keeping up with my visions. These funds even helped me save up for future projects such as opening up my very first lash and brow studio.

You can always start small, like only offering lash extensions, then once you feel you have mastered your skills and have a steady client base, adding another service to the mix like brows will allow you to provide an extra source of income. Little steps that, over time as you stretch and challenge yourself will be profitable and sustainable for your small business growth.

What always helped me when it came to taking that next step was having a business plan in place before considering the next move. This may seem like a way to stunt quick growth but before you do anything, the first thing on your list should be to prepare for your move by creating a plan that will ensure you stay on track. It's better to be prepared than to be frustrated, especially with one's business.

If you still feel nervous about going through with shifting your service list here are some tips to consider before making that final decision.

  • Tip 1: Check in with your existing clients about current services

    • Returning clients trust your business because you have provided them with exceptional services in the past. This makes these existing clients the perfect people to help you try out new and unique services. It's an easy way to check how much a new service will be requested before placing it on your list of services. After all, what client wouldn't want a one-stop-shop for their beauty maintenance needs?

  • Tip 2: Expand upon services that already exist within your repertoire.

    • Explore how other people are performing services in your industry; see what you can do to spice things up. No matter how much you achieve you can never stop learning! Always be open, there are so many ways to continue to learn so your business continues to thrive.

  • Tip 3: Consider your own strength.

    • Too often I see artists undervalue their own skills because they don't think they are ready. If you have a client base that trusts you, you're obviously doing something right. I'm sure that, once you properly assess your skill, you’d find that some services could be introduced with little to no training.

We are all about helping dominate your niche and business and hope this was helpful to our readers. Now check out our short interview with Katie, CEO of Rockin’ Pets, Rollin’ Vets

This wonderful human has conquered many stages of growth through her business journey and has been kind enough to sit and answer a few questions on how she grew her full-service mobile Veterinary clinic and what she’s currently doing to elevate her business to the next level!

My motto is to ‘Do the right thing at the right time for the right people and you will succeed’.

Welcome, Katie Ceo of  Rockin’ Pets, Rollin’ Vets!

I've been lucky enough to share some special moments with you and the growth of your company. You’re a strong woman entrepreneur that has scaled your business to the next level.  You’re well known for serving pets and their families in the greater Houston area 7 days a week but it’s less known how much work goes into maintaining that title. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your day-to-day work.

My day today has changed so much since we launched our business in 2016!  At that point, I was seeing appointments 7 days a week, Monday through Thursday until 10 pm.  I had more time than before we were booked to keep a handle on the day-to-day operations.  My schedule has morphed over the next 5 years from owner/vet to mainly vet to CEO/part-time vet.  I am still working as much as ever, just the nature of the work has changed.  We now have 6 other Drs to see appointments so I spend much of my time on calls strategizing and planning for our expansion into other markets in Texas!

I’ve known you for several years now and have seen your business grow exponentially. What does it take to build a sustainable business? How do you set your short-term goals that lead to your long-term success? How do you push through even through rough times?

My motto is to ‘Do the right thing at the right time for the right people and you will succeed’.  We run our business with integrity and transparency and if we make a mistake we own it and we fix it the best way we know-how.

The short term goals are like stepping stones to the big picture goal.  I do have a tendency to be the big dreamer so can lose sight of the short-term goals.  I have been lucky enough to surround myself with people who can keep sight of those short-term goals and help us achieve them!

As far as pushing through the hard times, and boy have we had some, this past summer was especially challenging for us, you just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other and pivot when you have to accommodate those challenges.  It is not the problem in front of you that can derail you, it is how you respond to that problem that defines whether you will continue on to success.

What lessons or advice do you have for other business owners trying to scale their business?

Talk to as many other business owners as possible, take as many courses as possible, network as much as possible.  But do not ONLY listen to others, but also listen to your gut, and believe in your dream.

How is maintaining your brand image different now that your startup has scaled into a multi-level business?

We spent a lot of time with our rebranding efforts and are very strict with our brand guidelines and will not deviate from them.  You have to be very choosy about who represents your brand in order to maintain your brand standards, and if you have someone who is not living up to the soul of your brand then you have to let them go!

Hype time: What's new and noteworthy that you'd like to share with us? Or anything you would like to share about your business?

The biggest news is that we have just opened a satellite location in  The Woodlands area and are opening a location in Austin in Q2 of this year!  We could not be more excited to take our service into other areas of Texas so we can help as many people and their pets as possible!!

Talk about building a successful business that is thriving! Until next month - Cecily
